Language oh Language... Why we are ignoring it?

Malaysian student had held briefly the record of the most A's scored in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia.

Upon the announcement of results of SPM 2004 on 26March 2005, she received 17 1As - a record for number of A's received by astudent in the history of Malaysian education back then.

She was sponsored by Bank Negara Malaysia to study medicine in the United Kingdom, and did her A-levels at the Cheltenham Ladies College in the UK.Now

It was informed that she had failed her second year medical study at the University of Edinburgh.

What went wrong? Could English language be the problem? We are going back to Malay medium again and that means trouble.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

I am sure this is not the first case and not going to be the last. This language problem in Malaysia has become a "lapuk" story but the Malaysian specially those in the political arena will never understand and keep on going around in a circle

But this is not a merry go around story. This is about someones future that carries the weight of a nation.

The pride of the nation too relied on this language issues. The pride of the Education Department relied on this matter too. But who cares as long as UMNO BN is in power.

So this politician will use this issue to get more support as long as they can stay in power. Lets look at this issue from a different corner.

I have wrote about "Language" issue before. Today we are looking at the same problem again. It doesn't matter. We can talk about the same issues as long as we can get the correct answer.

1. Everyone knows that Bahasa Malaysia is a national language. This is no different than any other country around the world. India with HINDI as national language and china with Mandarin as a national language and so with other country.

2. But English is still remain as a dominan language around the world. Whether we like it or not, we still have to accept it.

3. For Malaysian politician, specially for UMNO leaders, this language issue is an issue to gain more support from their own kind. They still cling on to their sentiment in Bahasa Malaysia rather than English.

4. They fail to understand, Bahasa is only applicable as long as one stay in Malaysia. But in order to conquer the world one need english. Is it so hard to understand?

5. If we want to compete and became a competitor in the world stage, than we have to adopt English. Bahasa Malaysia is not going to bring us anywhere.

6. Our students in Malaysia obtain good result but when they are abroad their result became worst. Is it because our marking system is at fault? Is there any differential markings of papers? Is our education system at fault? I think the time has come to have a thorough re-examination of the whole education as well as the examination system.

7. It really reflects badly on our country when scholarship holders fail in their examinations at an alarming rate.

P.S. When a scholarship holder fails and has to repeat a year, it would cost the Country a lot of money which can actually be used to finance more students for study.

8. Scholarship holders also live a life of relative luxury, compared to self-financed students, and they normally stay in the best hostels and many of them have cars and so on… SO the whole system of awarding scholarship should be reviewed too…

9. But for the UMNO politician, the above is not the issue. They keep their statement on not to give up bahasa. Bahasa must be number one, it can't be number two.

10. Its the pride of the malays is to keep bahasa as number one. Loosing bahasa means, loosing the malays influence. This means loosing support.

11. They fail to understand Bahasa Malaysia is going to bring one to no where. They are going to loose as everyone sees they have lost.

12. Now, this system is going to be reviewed by the year 2011. Another turning point but no one knows where it shall lead.

13. They can do anything but in order to compete in the international arena, ENGLISH is needed. There is no two way about it.

Collective stories - 2009

1. Left another 2 more months for 2009 to end.

2. What changes were we have been through for 2009 and what are the hopes for 2010?

3. 20,000 over Malaysians over stayed in London, 98% were Chinese and the rest were Malaysian Tamils and Malays. (This not included those who successfully settled down in UK).

4. Why do non-Malays Malaysians are leaving the country? We claim we have the best ethnic system in the region. Malaysians were said to be treated equally in this country.

5. DSAI’s 100 million suite against Dr.M was out thrown. Who decide this decision? anyway this was expected?

6. New policy in teaching Science, Mathematic and English by the year 2011. When are they going to make a firm decision and stay on it?

5. When Kelantan’s oil royalty will be paid to the state government? This is no joke claim. The agreement was done back in 1975 between Petronas and Kelantan state.

6. 39,589 Malaysian citizen application are pending for approval. They will decide soon but I am not sure based on religion or race.

7. How long IGP will be in power? As long as he holds someone’s peacock I guess.

8. 80% of Teoh’s dead finding leads to homicide. Will it be taken into consideration or will it disappear like Bala’s SD. The family agreed and second postmoterm is on the way.

9. MCA – CSK and OTK settle down – No permanent friend and no permanent enemy in politics. Why the EGM is for if one never respect the out come? Why should be EGM if its power can be override by another clause? This is how one stayed in power even he is clearly rejected by the majority. What is the meaning of majority? MCA also good in playing “wayang kulit” lo?

10. If the one had the majority support than he will bark and proudly bark by telling he is still wanted. But when he fail to get the majority support than he will say he still need to be the leader because he still have two third support. This is how BN play wayang kulit. This is how "sandiwara" played by BN and keep hang on in

11. I am using KTM service everyday for the past 12 month and it was so practical but the service sucks. The charges are double compare to bus services. KTM even charge for the car you parked in their premises so I use motorbike to go to KTM station. Can you imagine every one have to evacuate in PUTRA station on 26/10/09 8.10am because the commuter was having hydraulic error and created heavy smoke like burning?

12. It sucks they have started to charge RM1.00 for each bike. I still insist on using KTM Commuter service because it is still cheaper than driving everyday to KL.

13. Most of them who use KTM commuter service are those with low income and middle income group. It does give me ideas and life experience by being with the rakyat.

14. The public don't mind paying but the services sucks day by day. They don’t show any improvement but even getting worse. The government should seriously look into this and spent the money wisely in this service rather than spending for F1.

15. I love FI and having F1 in Malaysian is good enough to promote Malaysia. Petronas should be wiser by sponsoring and giving opportunity to the poor and mostly non Muslims as we are all Malaysians.

16. LRT should be given credit for the excellent service. Bravo.

17. Another by-election is on the way. But it shall depend on court’s decision.

18. The 2008 Auditor-General's Report revealed that Pembangunan Pelancongan Nasional Sdn Bhd (Pempena) invested up to RM41.90 million on subsidiary companies since 1976 but has yet to reap profit from any of its ventures. Siapa nak bertanggungjawab?
19. PAS EGM call rings the bells of UMNO. Form PM, TPM and Tun commenting continuously on this matter. This issue became the head line of Malaysian pro BN media. But when come to other good news about Pakatan, you won’t hear anything.

Ikhlas Biar Bertempat

One Can Make a Different

When I write about the abuses of UMNO against the Malays, against the Country - I know that there are interesting stories that I tell.

Some you might have heard them before, some you will not have known of the details as I tell them and some you might have not known of if I had not highlighted them in my postings.

Some of you have made the effort to comment and discuss what has been said - but a disturbing number of comments seem to indicate a feeling of hopelessness – that there is nothing we can do to stop the rot!

You ask me what do I expect to achieve by what I write? The might of Barisan will not be disturbed by what we do.

Let me tell you that you are wrong. Who would have thought that Samy Velu would lose in Sugai Siput? That Sharizat will lose to a greenhorn in Bangsar? That Barisan will lose Kedah, Perak, Penang and SELANGOR! If you have told me that before the General elections I would have looked at you with undisguised contempt and hilarity.

Barisan had everything going for them. Money, the EC, all the Government machineries at their disposal – everything stacked in their favour.

What made the difference? The people’s vote. One by one your votes slowly but surely kicked Samy Velu out. Even Sharizat – a hard working MP for Bangsar was blind-sided by Nurul. Can you remember what Sharizat organized in Bagsar?

Her election machinery was so slick – had so much money – that it was like Christmas, Chinese New Year, Deepavali and Hari Raya all rolled up into one. And she lost!

Think my friends. We can make the difference! One by one as you vote you will slowly but surely put Barisan Nasional out. But it will not happen by itself. We must work towards it day by day. One by one. Build up our strength and our numbers until we achieve the critical mass for success.

UMNO does not think that we have achieved this. Nor do they think we can achieve it. That is why they chose a disbar lawyer to represent them in the last by-election. Now they have decided on Isa. You and I know who Isa is.

A convicted practitioner of money politics. Yet UMNO will have him represent them. The arrogance of UMNO in doing so is because we are not able to shoe them our dislike, our disgust and our contempt to them for choosing a convicted practitioner of money politics.

They say Isa have served his time and KJ is so bold as to say that Pakatan Rakyat too have tainted leaders. Yes we do – they are ALL tainted in your estimation because they have all, without exception, done time under ISA.

To us spending time under ISA is a badge of courage and commitment to our cause – one of justice and decency. So do not say that again. Do not mistake the sordid act of using money for all things as UMNO does to that of being incarcerated for your beliefs.

Any right-minded individual can see the flaw in that argument.
UMNO still does not doubt its ability to cling to power – and the operative word here is ‘cling’. To UMNO the ends justify the means. If not the election processes what else will they conjure to cling to power?

There is no one within UMNO now of the calibre of Tun Razak or Tun Ismail – these two were aware of the power they hold in their hands at one time in our history – and yet they are more aware of the need to put country before self.

They never took advantage of their position to enrich themselves or their families and I am sure there was no thought in any of their mind that their being in power would give their children the “right” to hold power themselves.

But all this escapes Najib. Escapes Hishamuddin and they do a disservice to their Father’s legacies.

But we together can make a difference. So please those amongst us that doubt the power of one – themself – think again.

The power of ONE
A Japanese proverb states: "The reputation of a thousand years may be determined by the conduct of one hour." The actions of just one person have even changed the course of a nation.

Edward Everett Hale wrote:
I am only one.
But still I am one.
I cannot do everything,
But still I can do something;
And because I cannot do everything
I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.
Centuries later, one person made a decision that had a detrimental effect. In 1923, by one vote,

Adolph Hitler gained control of the Nazi Party.
In 1645, one vote gave Oliver Cromwell control of England.
In 1776, one vote gave America the English language rather than German.
In 1845, one vote brought the state of Texas into the United States.
In 1941, one vote preserved the Selective Service System just 12 weeks before Pearl Harbor was attacked.
So you are one but you and me – we make two.

p/s: Hope readers can understand the voice of one can make the changes. The one that we are talking about is you and me. This article came from one of my close friend who I met in KTM station some time ago and his voice and his vibration is similiar to many Malaysian.

It was the prove to show Malaysians from all angle felt the same. Don't matter he is a Malays, Chinese nor Tamil. We do felt the same as one. We do care for the country. We do wish Malaysia can be one again.

Lets not only hope but lets make changes. Now or never.
