Samy Velu ~ Tun M

S Samy Vellu, the former president of MIC and current special envoy to India and South Asia, said that he would not support the Citizens’ Declaration because he is a strong supporter of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
It is hard to believe that Samy has abandoned his long-time friend, that is none other than Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the former prime minister of Malaysia and main the architect of the Citizen’s Declaration that seeks to remove Najib from office.

Samy, during his long years as the works minister in the cabinet of Mahathir, was a vociferous supporter of Mahathir; so much there was a prevailing pun that both were ‘brothers’ or that they had some special relationship.
On one occasion he told me that Mahathir was the greatest ‘gift’ to the Indian Malaysian community.
He added that Mahathir had a better understanding of the Indian Malaysian community than other Umno leaders.
He probably said this to me and perhaps to others because he was under tremendous criticism for not doing enough for Indian Malaysians and for being a yes-man to Mahathir.
While Samy used to praise Mahathir as one of the greatest prime ministers of Malaysia, but in secrecy he used to lament that under Mahathir, Indian Malaysians suffered in the country.
While the former MCA president Ling Leong Sik openly admitted that he feared Mahathir to the extent he was unable to raise issues pertaining to the Chinese community, Samy pretended that Mahathir was a ‘god’.
In the eyes of the public, Mahathir and Samy were the greatest of friends, but secretly they hated each other.
Mahathir was unable to remove Samy, despite many financial scandals, simply because of the iron grip that he had on the MIC.
Samy virtually reduced the party to nothing during his time.
Mahathir during his term in office was not vehemently opposed to corruption if such a practice produced bumiputera millionaires.
During Samy’s tenure, capable Indian Malaysian leaders were either sacked or voted out from positions. Deputy ministers K Pathmanaban and S Subramanim were marginalised within the MIC and G Pandithan, one of the vice-presidents, was sacked from the party.
Totally against dissent
Samy was totally against dissent within the party. He, like Mahathir, dealt with internal dissent viciously and cruelly.
It was only after Mahathir resigned from his post that Samy was able to garner some strength and courage to condemn Mahathir as the person responsible for undermining the development of the Indian Malaysian community.
As long as Samy was the MIC president, he would not allow the party to progress or permit the infusion of new blood in the party.
For this reason, he was finally coaxed out of his position within the MIC to be replaced by his deputy, G Palanivel.
As long as Samy helmed the MIC, it was disaster for Indian Malaysians politically. The MIC is now better now under the leadership of Dr S Subramaniam, the man who was handpicked to oust Palanivel.
Subramaniam’s performance leaves much to be desired. Like Samy, his administration of the MIC is still mired in caste and crony politics.
Despite accusations that he engineered the downfall of Palanivel with the connivance of the Registrar of Societies (ROS), he has not responded to them.
Subramaniam, due to his own blind loyalty to Samy, cannot be expected to address the myriad problems faced by the Indian Malaysian community.
Samy is an establishment man. He has the ability to warm up to those in power, the way he is doing to Najib.
At least Ling is concerned about the fate of the country, but allegedly Samy does not.
For him, rampant corruption and alleged involvement in scandals of Najib are the least of his problems.
During his tenure, Samy himself was accused of rampant corruption, particularly the way he allegedly diverted the allocated Telekoms share from Maika Holdings to three unknown companies, probably those that belonged to his cronies.
If Samy had thought seriously about the interests and welfare of Indian Malaysians, he would have inked the Citizens’ Declaration.
By doing this, he would have had an opportunity to close ranks with his one-time political colleague and presently, his nemesis, Mahathir.

Student moved to score 7As by teacher

KUALA LUMPUR: Seeing tears of joy on his teacher’s face when he scored an A for Science two years ago is the driving force behind a student’s string of 7As in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exam.
K. Phugeneswaran was so moved by his teacher’s reaction to his only A in the Penilaian Menengah Rendah test that he harnessed it as his motivation to study hard.
“From then on I wanted to make all my teachers happy,” said the former SMK Seri Bintang Selatan student.
But it wasn’t easy for the boy because there is no water and electricity in his house as his parents are too poor to provide that comfort.
So the boy, the eldest of five children, studied and slept in the school canteen or the assembly area for two years.
His father is a school clerk while this mother is a security guard at another school.
Two months before the SPM examination, Phugeneswaran took up a part-time job as a pizza maker in a supermarket to pay for books for extra classes and tuition.
“My teacher Puan Raja Faziatul Hanim Raja Azie also stayed after school hours to tutor me.
“I want those who are poor to know that as long as you have the will to do well, you can do it,” he said, adding that he wants to become a lawyer.
Raja Faziatul said Phugeneswaran was well-mannered and always came to class neatly dressed with his school shirt tucked in.
“Even when he was bullied by the other kids, he smiled. He was never seen pitying himself despite his difficulties,” she said.
“Most of the teachers knew about his situation and wanted to help him with money but he never accepted because he didn’t want to trouble us.”
She said it was a testimony to his strength and will to succeed.
Another teacher, Salina Abdul Manaf, said Phugeneswaran was the only student who went looking for all his teachers to thank them after he received his results last week.
His story went viral on Facebook when teacher Zaireen Zainal Abiddin posted it and it was shared more than 7,000 times.

DOSH and Malaysians

GEORGE TOWN: Consumers Association of Penang (CAP) wants the Ministry of Human Resources to audit the Standard Operating Procedures of the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH).
CAP president S.M. Mohamed Idris said the audit would enable the authorities to understand why DOSH’s work over the past 25 years to create a safety-conscious environment had been ineffective.

“The Human Resource Ministry disclosed in June 2015 that 92.5% of construction sites do not comply with specifications set by DOSH.
“The statistics show the ineffectiveness of DOSH in sending the message across to construction companies that laws have to be complied with at all times,” he said in a press release yesterday.
Mohamed Idris said the figures made a mockery of notices at worksites proclaiming ‘Safety First’.
“Putting up these notices does not absolve the industry from liability for injuries and death,” said Mohamed Idris.
“Neither do these notices absolve DOSH from ensuring that all safety precautions have to be followed.
“According to DOSH, it inspects only work sites of projects costing less than RM20mil and bigger projects are left in the hands of the companies under the concept of self-regulation because they can afford to engage consultants.
“In two major cases in Penang, the scaffolding fell at the second Penang bridge and the fin wall also collapsed at the 21- storey Umno building.
“The Commission of Inquiry set up by the Penang government found there was incompetence and negligence.
“This should have been a lesson to DOSH that consultants in construction companies also need to be audited to keep them on their toes at all times,” said Mohamed Idris.
He said the existence of DOSH should be reason enough for construction companies to follow the law without the need for DOSH officers to be at all the worksites at all times.

Expressing my thought and I hope non of you feel offended. I would not judge anyone's view on the above article but I would rather share my thought which basically I don't agree with  the way DOSH has been blame for failing to create such awareness.

I am a Safety and Security Manager for the past 20 over years and I have worked in several management including 10 years in a Japanese company and later join the hotel industry.
I am totally disagree with the blame pointed towards DOSH for failing to create awareness.
Bull shit to the writer and I would rather say, please get your fact and bug up your pants before blaming those who have done more than enough for donkey years to make Malaysian realize and be safety in safe working environment.
Malaysian are simply taking things for granted, they just don't care about the risk they are facing in work place.

I bet you can't, cause risk is everywhere, it just waiting for someone to press the button and there you go.

Not only work place but they are negligent in their own house too. Tell me where are the safest place in this world anymore when one doesn't even care about it and worst more, they don't even understand the concept !

Lets say for an example; A car driver will automatically check his seat belt when he saw a police block, why? He is afraid of the ticket.

The question here is, does he wear seat belt because of his safety of because of the authority?

Blaming DOSH (Department of Occupational Safety & Health) is the not he end of the game, blaming DOSH does not solve the problem and it is not the answer for the question.

It is the people, drive by the involvement of the government to step in and get started. Only than we would see the result. Why am I pointing to the government? It is because of the money involve for a consistent advertisement, training and any other activity which carries the weight of the Safety awareness.

To share my experience, I have seen and handle my staff losing her ring finger about an inch. I have seen a staff got burn by caused by LPG gas and the worst, I have seen a dead body of a staff laying motionless on the kitchen floor, electrocuted.

And you know what, all of these situation happens because lack of awareness.

So, by thinking correctly, by thinking with a logic commonsense would at least minimize the risk and would create safe environment.

I will continue in my next writing.... so much to say, so little words and time.

cheers.

MCA Needs a Leader to Outshine Guan Eng: Said Minister

All of a sudden, I am so excited over a title in Malaysikini report.

It just bug me and made me admit that LGE is better than the whole of MCA leaders. The minister clearly stated in statement saying: MCA needs a leader to outshine Guan Eng, which in fact proven that non of the MCA leaders are better than LGE.

This is why they lost and the are still suffering to recover.

MCA needs a leader to outshine Guan Eng - If LGE is doing well than why should we need MCA anymore. If the Chinese are happy with the current situation, than why not remain Pakatan Harapan in the next GE?

If a minister directly or indirect vomit a statement as such above, it does clearly indicate the lack of efficiency in MCA today. It is too indicate no more efficient leader leading the party which not only damaged the institution but lost trust of Chinese community as well.

And now we know that Pakatan Harapan is producing better and efficient leader.
