Panama Papers Revelations

Iceland's Prime Minister Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson became the first major casualty of the Panama Papers revelations, stepping down yesterday after leaked files showed his wife owned an offshore firm with big claims on the country's collapsed banks.
The ruling Progressive Party's deputy leader Sigurdur Ingi Johannsson, who holds the fisheries and agriculture portfolio, told reporters that the party had proposed to their junior coalition partner, the Independence Party, that he become the new prime minister himself.
Several countries, including India and Australia, have started investigating those named for possible money laundering or tax evasion.

Russian president Vladimir Putin's proxies, the family of British Prime Minister David Cameron, Bollywood megastars Amitabh Bachan and Aishwarya Rai and footballer Lionel Messi, among others.
IN Malaysia many unexplained transactions in the 1MDB money trail involved offshore entities registered in the British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands.
No investigations have been launched for the Panama Papers or the 2013 leaks. Several ministers have said it is not illegal to keep money overseas. Pressure might be stronger for action following the Panama Papers leak, as it comes amid corruption allegations against Najib. Najib denies wrongdoing and was cleared by the attorney-general.
